Fantasy Football Team 2014 Sleepers, Rankings, & Draft: Busts and Players to Avoid
Multiple fantasy football drafts are already underway, as the 2014 NFL regular season is less than a month away.
Fantasy footballers everywhere must be cautious they don't overdraft players and get bad value. Latin Post has created a list of five players who could be potential busts this upcoming season:
Cam Newton
This is an easy one. Although Newton is a good quarterback, who is capable of making plays with his feet, his numbers should decrease this season. Newton had his best season last year with 24 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, and an 88.8 passer rating. However, this season will be tough for Newton because he lost some of his favorite targets. Steve Smith, Brandon LaFell, and Ted Ginn Jr. are all on different teams. Could a lack of targets be the kryptonite for the season of the man they call "Superman?"
Eric Decker
Decker is an average wide receiver. He has good hands, and he can make plays after the catch. There's only problem -- Peyton Manning isn't playing for the New York Jets next season. Once Manning came to Denver, Decker's numbers nearly doubled in every statistical category. The Jets are expected to start Geno Smith, who has only played one full season. Backup quarterback Michael Vick doesn't paint a promising future either for Decker.
Darren McFadden
Even though he was drafted No. 4 overall in the 2008 draft, Darren McFadden has had a lot of injury problems. McFadden has only started 51 games in six seasons, and has only rushed for 1,000 yards one time, in 2010. It's a well-known fantasy football rule -- don't bet on an injury-prone player. Even when healthy, McFadden isn't the biggest touchdown back in the NFL anyway. Another thing to keep in mind -- the Raiders will be facing the NFC West this season.
Nick Foles
Foles had a terrific season last year. The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback threw an incredible 27 touchdowns and just two interceptions. This season, he won't be surprising anyone, and he will be without star wide receiver DeSean Jackson. Foles is still an unproven quarterback, because we haven't seen enough of him. He's definitely a risky pick. Foles has only started 16 career games, and he hasn't played a full season yet.
Sammy Watkins
A lot of people believe Sammy Watkins is the best wide receiver of this year's rookie class. He was drafted No. 4 overall by the Buffalo Bills, and he has a high hopes and expectations after he played great at Clemson. There's only one problem: he's on the Bills. Quarterback E.J. Manuel was a huge reach in last year's draft, and he has some accuracy issues. Watkins may get open, but there's no guarantee he will get the ball thrown to him.
