Stowaway Arrested Again at LAX Less Than a Day After Being Banned by a Judge
It didn't take long before a 62-year-old woman infamously known as a "serial stowaway" was arrested for trespassing at the Los Angeles International Airport less than 24 hours after she faced a judge for the same charge.
Marilyn Hartman was arrested on Monday for surpassing airport security at Mineta San Jose International Airport and boarding a Southwest Airlines flight from San Jose to Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Flight attendants discovered that the white-haired woman snuck onto the flight once they realized that their passenger count didn't align with their records.
On Wednesday, she pleaded no contest before a judge and was released from jail after she promised not to return to the airport without purchasing a ticket. She was also ordered to 24 months of probation and three days in jail.
Hartman described herself as a homeless and "desperate" woman trying to reach Hawaii when she spoke to reporters outside of the courthouse Wednesday, according to NBC Southern California. She said she was regretful of her actions and that she "made a mistake" when she snuck past airport security in San Jose. She also told reporters that the stunt was "stupid" and that she planned to take a bus back to the Bay Area, although she only had $4.25, reports San Jose Mercury News.
However, officials say she was arrested again Thursday around 11:15 a.m. at LAX's Terminal 7 for violating the orders she were given less than a day prior.
Between February and July of this year, Hartman was arrested seven times at SFO. Hartman was not caught trying to sneak onto a plane in three of her arrests, instead she returned to SFO in violation of her probation, restraining order and repeated arrests. In those last particular cases, she was "simply found sitting outside the security in places, like the food court," reports NBC.
