A naked elderly man began wandering around Times Square a couple days ago, talking to people about the benefits of public nudity. George Davis is campaigning for city supervisor, not in New York but in San Francisco.

Davis walked around naked in one of New York City's most popular tourist sections to talk to passersby and tourist about how being in the nude is a form of self expression, explains The Week. Davis is running for a seat in the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, hoping to take the spot of his opponent Scott Wiener.

Back in 2012, Wiener introduced a ban on public nudity, following a rise in complaints by local residents and business owners, reports The New York Times. In a 6-to-5 vote, the Board voted in favor of the ordinance amidst heckles and jeers from the crowd. Many at the time called Wiener a Republican and called for his recall, reports the newspaper.

With the new ordinance, anyone caught publicly nude will face an initial fine of $100, second offenses in the same year will be subject to a $200 fine and a third offense subject to a $500 fine or a misdemeanor charge with up to one year in jail.

Five nudism activists asked for a temporary restraining order on the law in 2013, attempting to impose a block on the ban, reports the CBS San Francisco; however, a federal judge turned down their request.

Davis now parades around New York City in the nude and talks with people about public nudity. According to The Associated Press, Davis gave a speech and then was interviewed, explaining how New York allows public nudity for artistic expression and comparing the two cities.

The seat Davis is campaigning for represents San Francisco's Castro District.
