'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie News, Cast and Release Date: Melanie Griffith, Mother of Dakota Johnson, Has Seen the Red Room of Pain in 50 Shades
Fans and the curious alike will likely check out the movie adaptation of E.L. James' bestselling erotic novel, "Fifty Shades of Grey" next year. Melanie Griffith, the mother of star Dakota Johnson, has confirmed that she will not one of those viewers.
In an interview published by IndieWire this week, Griffith said she will not watch Johnson in her lead role as Anastasia Steele, an innocent college student who learns about BDSM from billionaire Christian Grey (played by Jamie Dornan).
"I have not seen 'Fifty Shades of Grey,'" the "Thirst" actress said. "I don't think I'm going to see it."
According to Griffith, 57, Johnson explicitly told her and her ex-husband, Johnson's father Don Johnson, 64, that they were not invited to see the movie.
"[Dakota] was like, 'You guys cannot come. There's no way,'" Griffith explained. "So we're not going. I did go visit for a couple of days when they were shooting just normal stuff."
Griffith has already gotten a little taste of the "Fifty Shades of Grey" world, however,
"I did see the Room of Pain," she added. "I did go in there and check it out."
The mother also shared her plans to watch Johnson film "another movie on Patelleria [in Sicily]," on Aug. 8.
"She's amazing -- so good," Griffith said. "It's just so beautiful to see her doing this. She had her mom, and her dad and her grandmother [Tippi Hedren], and she's just taken us all and thrown us away. She's like, 'Here I am.'"
In July, Johnson told TIME that she didn't want her parents to see "Fifty Shades of Grey."
"Not at all," she said. "I mean, if it were them doing the movie, I wouldn't want to see that."
"Fifty Shades of Grey" hits theaters Feb. 13, 2015. Sam Taylor-Johnson directed the movie, and James is one of the producers.
