Samsung announced the Samsung Galaxy Alpha Wednesday, and they confirmed that this Galaxy will finally be built with metal instead of plastic. The phone will debut in September, just in time to compete with Apple's new iPhone that is expected to come out in the same month.

Samsung Galaxy models have always been made of plastic in the past, and now finally Samsung is appeasing those who demanded a metal handset. The new phone looks sleek and very similar to an iPhone 5.

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha is basically the Samsung Galaxy S5. It will have a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display and will weigh only 115 grams. It's thin too, measuring in at only 6.7mm in thickness.

The Galaxy Alpha will be available in black, white, gold, silver and blue.

The display on the Galaxy Alpha isn't as impressive as the Galaxy S5. The Galaxy Alpha has a 1,280 x 720 pixel display. The Galaxy S5 has a 1,920 x 1080 pixel display. So, the Galaxy Alpha goes back to a 720p display, but it still gets the metal handset.

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha will use Android 4.4 KitKat and will have features like the ultra-power saving mode, S Health, a fingerprint scanner, private mode and connectivity to Samsung's wearable devices.

A slight downgrade in the cmaera also occurs in the Galaxy Alpha. Instead of a 16 megapixel (MP) camera that was found in the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy Alpha gets just a 12 MP camera.

Samsung CEO JK Shin said that despite the downgrade to some of the features, the "Galaxy Alpha was built and designed based on the specific desires of the consumer market."

"With an entirely new appearance, the Galaxy Alpha focuses on both beauty and functionality," Shin continued, "combining a stunning metal frame and slim, lightweight design with the same powerful hardware and features users expect from a flagship Galaxy mobile device."

The phone will come with 32 gigabytes (GB) of internal storage and 2 GB of RAM. There is no capability to add extra space via a micro SD slot, however.
