Wii U Game Sales and Updates: Super Smash Bros. Could be Delayed; Classic Games Hit the eShop
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U was first announced over 1,100 days ago, but there is still no confirmed date for its release. And, if history repeats itself, it could be delayed even longer.
Nintendo has a history of announcing games and then dragging out their releases. Take the 2007 version of Smash Bros for Wii, for example. Super Smash Bros. Brawl was announced in May of 2005, and it took over 1,000 days for the game to be released.
With the next Smash Bros. game highly anticipated by many Nintendo fans, further delays could cause even more impatience. It's looking like the game might not make it in time for a holiday 2014 release, and instead it could be pushed back to sometime in 2015.
If Smash Bro. for Wii U can make a concrete release date this week, it could possibly make it in time for Black Friday, since Nintendo's average announce date and release date differential is about three and a half months. But, if it can't, it's highly unlikely that a December release of the game would occur.
Classic Games Make it to the eShop
A bit of good news for Wii U gamers is the recent release of Mega Man 5 and Super Mario Kart on the eShop. These classic games became available last week as digital downloads.
Mega Man 5 first debuted for the original Nintendo (NES) system in 1992. Super Mario Kart debuted for the Super Nintendo system (SNES) in 1993. Mario Kart will cost $7.99 and Mega Man 5 will cost $4.99
This week, Mega Man 6 and Double Dragon II will come as downloads. Double Dragon will be available Thursday and will cost $4.99.
