Ferguson Police Department Release Name of Officer Involved in Michael Brown Shooting
The local police have released more information concerning the shooting death of teenager Michael Brown. They provided the name of the officer who shot the teenager as well as other details leading up to the incident.
In a quick press conference Friday morning, Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson recounted what happened leading up to the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown and announced the name of the officer involved in the shooting. According to ABC News, the officer involved is named Darren Wilson, a six-year veteran police officer.
Wilson has a clean disciplinary record, the police chief told reporters, and was also “treated for an injury” but did not provide any further details. As the press conference continued, reporters were handed reports with information leading up to the incident.
Police Chief Jackson released information about “a robbery that occurred on Aug. 9 immediately preceding the altercation and shooting death of Michael Brown.” The report distributed contained the dispatch records and video of a “strong-arm” robbery that happened at a convenience store near where Brown was shot.
On the day of the shooting, Wilson answered to a sick call around 30 minutes before the incident, and at 11:51 a.m. there was a 911 call concerning the robbery in question, explained Jackson. Dispatch gave an initial description of the suspects and then gave a more-detailed description soon after.
The shooting then happened at around 12:01 p.m., and another officer arrived at 12:04 p.m. with a supervisor dispatched minutes later, said the police chief. He added there would be another press conference in the afternoon when the press will be able to ask questions.
Ryan Reilly, a reporter for the Huffington Post, uploaded to Twitter images of the report distributed. It details what happened at the robbery and links it to Brown.

The police report places Brown and Johnson, a witness to Brown’s death, at the convenience store and claims they stole some cigars from the store. It goes onto ink the robbery with Brown’s shooting death.
“After viewing Brown and reviewing this video, I was able to confirm that Brown is the primary suspect in this incident,” the report states.
Michael Brown’s parents responded to the police report with outrage, decrying what they argue is the police's attempt "to assassinate the character of their son." Their attorney, Benjamin Crump, relayed the message to the media, according to CBS St. Louis.
CNN uploaded the full police report here.
