Actor Michael Cera released an indie folk album online on Aug. 8. Cera's 18-track album "true that" was uploaded on the website Bandcamp.

The 26-year-old, best known for his acting roles in "Arrested Development," "Superbad" and "Juno," dropped the album because he was "bored a few days ago" and decided to create a place where people could listen to the songs online. "true that" is free to stream on Bandcamp and costs $7 to download.

The album drop earlier this month was not publicized much until it garnered some attention when actor friend Jonah Hill tweeted about it Wednesday.

"My great friend Michael Cera not only is a brilliant actor, he also makes great music," Hill wrote and posted a link to the album's page.

Cera said the low-key album release was his attempt at releasing an album like Beyoncé did in December 2013 without any promotion or hype.

"I didn't want anyone to take it seriously or think that I was taking it seriously by it being a big thing," Cera said.

The album has both original and borrowed sounds, whose samples include audio of a television reporter cursing after swallowing a bug to dialogue from the 1973 film "O Lucky Man!"

"I would record a lot of the songs in the middle of the night just at home," Cera said to The Associated Press. "I never thought anyone would ever listen to them. It's really nice that people are paying any attention to it because there's a lot of stuff to listen to."

Cera said he created the songs using Garageband software. He said it made the album "honest" since he was limited by "my abilities, my imagination and my technology."

With preparations in full swing for his Broadway debut in September in "This Is Our Youth" opposite Kieran Culkin, Cera said he does not plan on switching careers to musician. Cera explained making music is more a fun and relaxing hobby.
