Mortal Kombat X News, Gameplay and Release Date: New Characters Set to Be Introduced
Mortal Kombat X is introducing some new characters, but there are also some characters that won't make the cut. That doesn't mean that they won't be in the game in some manner though.
After Mortal Kombat 9, we fast forward 25 years for Mortal Kombat X, so it makes sense that some characters aren't fighting anymore, have died or just simply retired. Kano will be back, but he'll be older yet more powerful than ever.
But, it wouldn't make sense to keep all of the characters from the previous versions of Mortal Kombat in the new game. However, it's possible that through flashbacks and DLC (downloadable content) that these characters will return in some aspect.
"A lot of the new characters are those that came into power after MK9. Kotal Khan is one of them. I won't give away the story, but a lot of these characters come in and out of power over the course of the story," Ed Boon, creative head at NetherRealm Studios said in an interview with IGN.
"A lot of old faces won't make the roster, but to us it was more important we did introduce new characters. We're probably introducing more in this game than in any other MK title ever."
Old Fatality Feature to Return
It looks like classic Mortal Kombat fans will be able to enjoy an older version of the fatality finishers that are part of the signature ending to a Mortal Kombat death match.
For those who are familiar with the Mortal Kombat, we've first had the Fatality, and we added a Babality. We had the Friendship moves, Brutality moves and all of these crazy things over the years. We are going to be reinstating an 'Ality' from a previous game into Mortal Kombat X. And I can't wait to be able to talk about it but at the moment I can't.
Content-Exclusive Characters
Depending on which system you play Mortal Kombat X, your experience may vary and the characters you choose to play with or against will change too.
In the same interview with IGN, Boon revealed that console-specific exclusive characters would be back for Mortal Kombat X.
