Premier League News, Schedule and Standings 2014-15:Week 2 Preview: Liverpool vs. Manchester City, Everton vs. Arsenal AMong Major Matchups of Weekend

Week 2 of the Barclay's Premier League gets underway with six games on Saturday and four split between Sunday and Monday.

The first week featured a lot of surprises and the second is expected to heighten the tension with some marquee matchups. Here are the biggest games to look out for in Week 2:

Everton vs. Arsenal

A few days after a disappointing 0-0 draw at Besiktas, the Gunners have to enter into a hostile arena where Everton will be looking to reverse a tough result on opening weekend. The home team certainly has the advantage and will be looking for a similar result to the 3-0 trouncing they managed over the Gunners at the end of last season.

Roberto Martinez's side struggled in a 2-2 draw at Leicester, a team they should have topped. Meanwhile, Arsenal needs a big result on the road. The team notoriously lost big games by big margins on the road throughout the 2013-14 season and many feel that these results ultimately cost them the top spot in the Premier League.

The Gunners had a shaky start last weekend and barely managed a crucial three points over Crystal Palace. The offense lacked the composure to create chances while the defense had its lapses. Another performance like Saturday's and Arsenal could be facing yet another blowout loss away from home.

Chelsea vs. Leicester City

Both teams have a lot to prove in this matchup. For Leicester City, the team needs to show that its opening day performance against Everton was not a fluke. The team played well in its return to the top tier and responded well against a rather solid squad.

Chelsea will look to show that the promise of the opening day win over Burnley was more than just promise. The Blues annihilated the newly promoted side on the road thanks to some terrific performances from new arrivals Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas. The latter was particularly terrific as he had an influence on all three Chelsea goals and looked stoic commanding the midfield.

A dominant performance from Chelsea at home will do a lot to cement the club's position as a title contender.

Sunderland vs. Manchester United

The reign of King Louis van Gaal was not supposed to start the way it did. The Dutch manager was expected to exorcise the demons of David Moyes from 2013-14 and give the fans a contender worthy of the franchise's name.

Instead, Manchester United stumbled in its home opener and lost 2-1 against Swansea City. It was a nightmarish result for Van Gaal who must do his utmost to fill out this roster via transfers. Marcos Rojo is a good step in that direction, but more is needed if this team hopes to re-establish itself as a contender.

Sunderland is far from a great team, but provides the Red Devils with a great opportunity to get their season back on track. A big away win would go a long way toward restoring the confidence of a seemingly broken club. It will be interesting to see how Van Gaal adjusts after the opening day loss and gets the team back on the right track.

Manchester City vs. Liverpool

The lone Monday match is arguably the most exciting of the weekend. The two teams that finished at the top of the standings last season will get a chance to show how they have progressed.

Manchester City looked comfortable in its opening weekend win over Newcastle United and should be content to play at home where it nearly went undefeated in 2013-14. The offense seems to be working its magic as usual, but there are concerns over the defense.

Liverpool's problems are the complete opposite. The absence of Luis Suarez was apparent in the opening game against Southampton while the defense looked solid. This game could ultimately define how both sides do in the long run. A win for Liverpool gives them a crucial road win. Manchester City is the favorite here and should manage to pull out three points.
