HBO "True Detective" Season 2 Spoilers & Release Date: HBO President Gives Inside Scoop on Show's New Episodes
At the Guardian International Television Festival held in Edinburgh, Mike Lombardo, the president of HBO programming, revealed the latest details regarding "True Detective" Season 2, according to Huffington Post UK.
The chief executive said that the second season would not be as dark as the first one. He also revealed that the new season will start shooting in September. He said that Season 2 will feature one female and two male cops and revealed that he had already read the scripts for the first two hours of the new season written by Nic Pizzolatto as well as plot outlines for two more episodes.
Mike Lombardo said that it is also challenging for them, particularly for Nic Pizzolatto, since the first season was such a huge success. Still, he revealed that the writing for Season 2 is even better than that of Season 1 with Nic Pizzolatto still exploring the dark side of people despite him saying that the second season will not be a dark one. Despite not being dark, the plot will not be a light one either. Lombardo labeled the writing for the second season as exceptional.
Some of the other details revealed by Lombardo include the use of three or four directors, whose names will be announced in the coming weeks. The first season was solely directed by Cary Fukunaga. The Season 2 premiere is set for summer of next year. The casting will be announced soon, according to Lombardo.
He also talked about the story behind the first season. He shared that when he first received the script he assumed that it would be Woody Harrelson who would be portraying Rust Cohle, the very troubled characte, but that impression was before he saw the re-emergence of Matthew McConaughey as a highly respected actor.
HBO is having a very good year with a total of 99 nominations for this year's Emmy Awards.
