What will happen in the Abbey next season when the world returns to Yorkshire and the 1920s? New spoilers tease fans as to what may happen in the upcoming season now that Matthew is dead, Mary is coming into her own and Branson questions his role in the family.

Metro has some new tidbits about the upcoming season, which will air in the U.K. this fall on ITV and in the U.S. on Jan. 4, 2015, on PBS. According to the British publication, the new season will be set in 1924 during the election of Britain's first Labor government, testing Branson's revolutionary resolve.

Also testing Branson's new aristocratic aspirations and his socialist beliefs will be the arrival of Russian refugees, according to Buzzfeed, who spoke with Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith), Allan Leech (Branson), Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary) and Joanne Froggatt (Anna).

"He would have some issues supporting it as much, given what happened in Russia at the time," Leech told Buzzfeed. "There's a nice moment to play. I think that's the reason you don't see Tom getting so involved; obviously, he has some issues with the imperialist nature of some of the people who are there."

However, the refugees' arrival allows Lady Rose, played by Lily James, to shine and mature, the cast said. The Russian refugees will bring actor Rade Serbedzija, of M&M fame, as Kuragin.

Also appearing on the show are Richard E. Grants as art historian Simon Bricker and Anna Chancellor as Lady Anstruther, Jimmy's previous employer, reports Metro. However, also returning are Lady Mary's love interests, Lord Gillingham and Charles Blake, played by Tom Cullen and Julian Ovenden respectively.

Lady Mary, nonetheless, will not be making any decisions this season.

"Mary doesn't settle with anyone any time soon; she was never going to. That's important, not just for the story but also for the audience because Matthew was such a well-loved character. ... So you can't really have Mary marry someone immediately," Dockery said.

According to Buzzfeed, Lady Edith will continue to struggle with the disappearance of her love, Michael Gregson, and the arrival of her daughter in the estate.

"The main thing for Edith now is the child," Carmichael told BuzzFeed. "She's had a baby, and she's having that awful feeling of being separated from your child, and she's living with that. And yet she cannot share that with anyone because it's too great a risk to her reputation."

She also explains the struggle faced by Drewes as Lady Edith constantly visits them to see the child.
