2014 Emmys Recap: Best, Worst Dressed Celebrities of the Night
The Emmys are a no-frills event, so besides finding out who won, what the stars wore becomes that much more important.
The ceremony, which took place on Monday night, didn't pose too much of a competition for the fashion. While Julia Louis-Dreyfus being kissed by Bryan Cranston, Gwen Stefani's mispronunciation of "The Colbert Report" and several celebrities deciding to pick on Matthew McConaughey were funny moments, it is the style that had people talking.
Here are our picks for best and worst dressed.
Worst Dressed
Kate Walsh wore a beautiful yellow color, but the huge yellow peplum did nothing for that look. A much more streamlined dress would have been far more stunning and elegant.
Laura Prepon also chose a very heavy look. Once again the color is a winner, but it's the overly complicated design that fails her.
Katherine Heigl's goal was to channel Old Hollywood, and she almost achieves it. The dress is beautiful, but the look ages her a bit. Maybe she should have chosen to leave her hair down and in waves to give her a more youthful appearance.
Lena Dunham's Giambattista Valli Couture outfit took guts to wear, but it was perhaps a little too larger than life. It had a very puffy skirt, and seemed slightly out of place at the show.
Samira Wiley wore another very beautiful color, but as much as it pains us to say this, the dress was not a perfect fit. It looked baggy in certain areas.
Best Dressed
Michelle Dockery absolutely stunned in a Rosie Assoulin dress. It wasn't exactly the norm, but it still maintained its elegance. This is a lady who really knows how to wear clothes.
January Jones loves to go against her "Mad Men" character by going edgy. And while those sweet 1950s and 1960s looks work on her, this Prabal Gurung dress is the perfect balance between edgy and sweet. We hope this is the direction that her future red carpet looks will be headed in.
Carrie Brownstein is the ultimate cool girl, so she chose a classic black. It is a very simple gown, but it does manage to have an asymmetrical neckline, as well as a bit of shimmer under the bust.
Heidi Klum loves sparkly, short dresses, and for the Emmys, she stayed away from both. This Zac Posen gown is sleek and comes with a cape attached. It's such a departure from her that it naturally stands out.
Lizzy Caplan understands that an award show like the Emmys is all about drama. Her dress was black in the front and white in the back. It also featured cutouts. She easily made her mark on the red carpet.
