2014 US Open Tennis Day 4 Schedule, Streaming, Match Times: Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Serena Williams in Action
Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray will see action while Serena Williams will resume her title defense in Day 4 of the 2014 U.S. Open tennis tournament on Thursday at the Flushing Meadows in New York.
Djokovic, who is considered as favorite to win this year's U.S. Open title, will go up against Paul-Henri Mathieu of France, who earned a spot in the second-round with a five-setter victory against Gilles Muller in the opening round.
The top-seeded Serb, who finished second in the last two editions of the tournament, opened his campaign with a 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 victory against Diego Schwartzman of Argentina.
Andy Murray of Great Britain, who could meet Djokovic in the quarterfinals, will also take court on Thursday against Matthias Bachinger of Germany.
The eighth-seeded Briton will be a favorite heading into the match, but there are concerns about Murray's playing shape after suffering from cramps in his first-round win against Robin Haase on Monday.
Murray, who won the Grand Slam event in 2012, admitted that he is still unsure about the reason why he cramped up during his tournament opener against Haase.
"I haven't got to the bottom of it exactly," Murray said on Tuesday via Telegraph. "But it can be a combination of a number of things, maybe one thing in particular. I don't play my next match until Thursday, I need to hydrate before then and get a lot of food in the body."
Meanwhile, top-seeded Serena Williams is scheduled to compatriot Vania King in the second round.
Williams, who is looking to win her sixth, and third straight, U.S. Open title, proved why she is favored to win this year with a masterful 6-3, 6-1 win against Taylor Townsend on Tuesday.
The women's match between Williams and King will be the second match of the first session that is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. EST at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, which will be followed by the Djokovic-Mathieu match.
The Murray-Bachinger showdown will be the first match of the night session at the Arthur Ashe Stadium that is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. EST.
