One of Hollywood's most famous couples, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, tied the knot over the weekend at their home in France.

The couple had managed to keep the wedding private and only told the world on Thursday.

The couple had arrived in France last Friday, according to USA Today, but nothing more was known about the couple's stay in the country. Some simply assumed they would stay in their French home of Chateau Miraval but nothing more was known.

However, it turned out that the next day Pitt, 50, and Jolie, 39, tied the knot after nine years together. USA Today adds that the wedding was a private and intimate affair with only a family and friends invited. The couple's six children, nonetheless, all took part in the ceremony.

According to ABC News, the couple's six children -- Maddox, 13, Pax, 10, Zahara, 9, Shiloh, 8, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 6 -- partook in the ceremony.

The Associated Press, which first reported on the news, said Maddox and Pax walked Jolie down the aisle and Zahara and Vivienne acted as flower girls and threw rose petals. The younger boys, Shiloh and Knox, were the ring bearers.

The couple had mentioned to People magazine back in May about including their children in their wedding plans.

"We're just waiting for it to be the right time with the kids, with work, when it feels right," Jolie said. "We talk about it occasionally, and the kids talk about it with us.

"Which is verging on hysterical, how kids envision a wedding. They will in a way be the wedding planners. It's going to be Disney or paintball -- one or the other! We've got a lot of different personalities in the house. They've got some strong opinions. It will be fun. That's the important thing. When we do it, it will feel like a great day for our family."

The couple started dating after their collaboration in "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" in 2005 and got engaged in 2012. They will reappear on the big screen together in the upcoming movie "By the Sea," written by Jolie and to be filmed in Malta.
