'La Gata' Spoilers & Update 2014: Show Starring Maite Perroni Finally Coming to Univision; Meet the Characters
"La Gata" may have premiered earlier in the year in Mexico, but it is only making its way to the United States on Sept. 1.
The telenovela pairs Maite Perroni with Daniel Arenas as two people who grow up in totally different worlds.
Meet the characters ahead of the September premiere.
Esmeralda
As a young girl, Rita takes her in. She makes the young Esmeralda, who is portrayed by Maite Perroni, beg for money and food, so that they can live. She becomes a strong and rebellious character. She also knows exactly what she wants and what she doesn't want.
She defends her integrity and her dignity, despite being poor. She knows she has to be prepared to leave this life behind, so she learns how to read and write.
She is Pablo's love interest, and she is known as La Gata.
Pablo
Daniel Arenas is Pablo Martinez Negrete. He has wanted to be an artist since he was a child. He first meets Esmeralda as a kid, and he's jealous of how much fun she has. Many times he denied being in love with Esmeralda. He lets his parents manipulate him.
Lorena Martinez Negrete
Lorena Martinez Negrete is played by Laura Zapata. She is Pablo, Mariano and Virginia's mother. She is married to Agustin. She judges people based on their social standing, and she despises people who are humble and uneducated. She tries to impose her ideas onto her family.
Paloma Luis de Alma
Paloma Luis de Alma, who is portrayed by Monica Lascurain, is a sophisticated woman of high standing. She was generally good natured, until she was left at the altar.
Agustin Martinez Negrete
Juan Verduzco is Agustin Martinez Negrete. He is married to Lorena, and he lives in constant fear. He sent Fernando de la Santa Cruz, who is known as El Silencioso, to jail.
El Silencioso
El Silencioso is portrayed by Manuel Ojeda. He is very strong when it comes to defending himself from Agustin. But he is also kind and emotional when it comes to Damian, Esmeralda and Fela. He is noble, but jail has hardened him.
