FOXLife TV Network 2014: Fox to Introduce New Female-Centric Channel in Spain
21st Century's Fox International Channels unit is gearing up to bring a new female-focused channel, FOXLife, to Spain. The network, which will roll out in October, will air both scripted and unscripted shows to Spanish audiences.
With established U.S. hit shows like "Scandal" and "The Good Wife," Fox says its international channels branch's new venture will be "targeted at -- but not exclusive to -- a female audience." However, FOXLife will also offer locally-based content like "The World's Best Chefs," which are "designed to match the tastes of the local audience."
The 24-hour channel will launch across multiple pay-TV platforms like DTH, cable, IPTV and OTT services with a combined 2.6 million Spanish subscribers. It will replace Fox Crime, whose shows are largely moving to the main Fox network in Spain. FIC currently manages a kids network, Baby TV, and three National Geographic-branded channels.
"We are thrilled to launch FOXLife in Spain," Adam Theiler, FIC Spain's head and executive vice president of FIC's Southern Europe division. "The brand is core to our global entertainment portfolio and its entry into this market signals FIC's continued investment and confidence in Spain ... We are looking forward to introducing this great product and to entertaining local audiences with its addictive content."
Currently, FIC is broadcasted in 73 countries largely in Europe, including Italy, Greece, Turkey, Poland and Portugal. FOXLife's addition is said to "round out FIC's bouquet in the market" of their networks overseas.
Fox International Channels has over 300 entertainment, sports, movie and factual channels across Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America. With this enormous conglomerate, Fox reaches more than 1.6 billion households around the world. This extension is part of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., empire.
