Hulu TV Shows: Upcoming 'Los Cowboys' Reality Series to Highlight the Lives of Charros in the Mexican Rodeo Known as Charrería
This fall, a new reality show will come to online streaming site Hulu, centered on the glory of the charrería, or Mexican rodeo.
The show, "Low Cowboys," follows the lives of a team of Los Angelenos caught up in the world of the Mexican rodeo as they chase their dreams (and horses) in hopes of making it to the ultimate charrería competition: the Mexican National Rodeo Championship.
Some consider charrería to be an art. The members of the Los Cowboys team boast that Mexicans were the first cowboys in the United States. According to the Texas State Historical Association, the sport comes from 16th century Spanish conquistadors who inspired Mexican charros, or cowboys, to their "equestrian contests" into a feat that would eventually become Mexico's national sport.
"Los Cowboys" highlights the diversity of the sport today, showing the lives of unique team members filled with the spirit of the tradition.
For example, Alex Corral, a Los Angeles native of Mexican descent, must learn to juggle his passion, with wife Marisela Corral, his growing family and his job as a TV producer. Meanwhile, his brother Joey Corral would rather play the bassoon.
The show also features Ivette Saucedo, a model and 2013 winner of the Queen of the Universe beauty pageant. Of Spanish and Mexican descent, Saucedo is the only female on the Los Cowboys team, yet mirrors the passion and commitment of her peers.
Also uniting the team members is their love for horses. Robert Lara, the team's captain, works as a horse trainer outside of training for the rodeo. Meanwhile, Rafael Cabral, is considered one of the team's best and makes it to practice after long days of entrepreneurial meetings in Beverley Hills.
Dedication to charrería even applies to those new to the sport, such as team member Adrian Nevarez. Although a newbie to the sport, he is committed to getting Los Cowboys to the Mexican nationals.
With a combination of Los Angeles and Mexican settings and cultures "Low Cowboys" brings a diverse program to Hulu's growing original content.
