Tracy Morgan: Actor Struggles to Recover from Truck Crash Injuries
According to the "30 Rock" star Tracy Morgan's attorney, the actor and comedian is finding it difficult to overcome his injuries from a car crash earlier this summer.
"He's really having a tough time," lawyer Benedict P. Morelli said.
The 45-year-old actor sustained numerous injuries as the result of a six-car accident on June 6 while riding on the New Jersey Turnpike. Morgan suffered a broken nose, severely broken leg and several cracked ribs when his limo was struck by a Walmart semi-truck. James "Jimmy Mack" McNair, a dear friend of Morgan's, was killed in the crash. Three others were also injured in the pile-up.
"The truth is he's struggling, but he's fighting hard," Morelli added. "He's got the fighting spirit, but every day is different. Some days he's very down."
Morelli explained that Morgan has made some progress in the two months since the car accident, but still has a long road to recovery. He also said that the comedian is still dealing with the grief after McNair's death, and Morgan can't stop feeling responsible for the deadly accident.
"It's not only physical, [Morgan's recovery] is emotional," Morelli told NBC's Today show on-air Monday.
Rumors across the Internet have been reporting falsities about Morgan's condition, some even claiming Morgan had died or that his leg had been amputated. Morelli tried to set the record straight with a straightforward take on the star's recovery.
"Now, there's been a couple of people who said he's doing great, and that's not true. What is true is he's struggling and he's fighting," he said.
The Walmart truck driver, Kevin Roper, pleaded not guilty to vehicular homicide and assault charges. Walmart has said it will cooperate with the investigation surrounding the accident and vowed it would take "full responsibility" if Roper was found guilty.
Morgan along with other survivors filed a lawsuit against the company.
