Nintendo Executives do ALS Ice Bucket Challenge: Nominated by Xbox's Phil Spencer, Employees Who Donated Were Given Raffle Tickets to Soak Bosses [Watch]
Responding to the nomination by Phil Spencer of Xbox to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge earlier this month, Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, promised to "one-up" the video by Spencer.
Usually, the acceptance to the ice bucket challenge is performed within 24 hours of the nomination, but after more than a week, Fils-Aime has still not responded to the nomination. According to GameSpot, it turns out that he did take on the challenge and took things one step further to help raise awareness and donations by offering a special campaign of his own.
Every employee of Nintendo of America who donated to the ALS Association was given a raffle ticket and the chance to be the one to dump the bucket of ice water on the heads of the company's executives, one of whom will be the company president himself.
Apparently, it was not just Fils-Aime who participated in the acceptance of the challenge as his co-executives Steve Fukuda, Devon Pritchard, Ingvar Petursson, Don James, Scott Mofitt and Flip Morse also got a bucket of ice water poured over their heads. They are the highest executives of the company and it was definitely a win for the employees who got a chance to do the honors of soaking their bosses with the freezing water.
The company did not disclose how much it collected for donations to the ALS Association, but the Ice Bucket Challenge has not slowed down from its status of a viral campaign online and is causing a major impact on funding. According to the data released by the organization this week, donations have totaled to about $88.5 million just for the period of July 29 to Aug. 26. This is a rather massive improvement compared to their collection of just $2.6 million during the same time frame a year ago, CBS Boston reports.
