Steven Sotloff ISIS Beheading Video: Islamic Militants Reportedly Release Video of Second US Journalist Killed in Syria
Islamic State militants released what is believed to be a video of the beheading of American journalist Steven Sotloff.
In the video, titled "A second message to America," Sotloff appears to be in Syria dressed in an orange jumpsuit. He looks at the camera and recites a message before he is executed by the extreme Iraqi terrorist group known as the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, or ISIS.
According to CNN, Sotloff said he is "paying the price" for U.S. intervention in Iraq. A masked militant also addresses President Barack Obama in the video, saying, "Just as your missiles continue to strike our people, our knife will continue to strike the necks of your people."
British captive David Haines' life was also threatened in the footage.
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said that the Obama administration will work to confirm the authenticity of the video, reports the Huffington Post.
Sotloff, who freelanced for Time and Foreign Policy magazines, disappeared while reporting in Syria back in August 2013.
His mother released a video last week pleading with ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi to free her son.
"Steven is a journalist who traveled to the Middle East to cover the suffering of Muslims at the hands of tyrants. Steven is a loyal and generous son, brother and grandson. He is an honorable man and has always tried to help the weak," Shirley Sotloff said.
Last month, ISIS released a video of the beheading of American journalist James Foley, who was reporting on the civil war in northern Syria in November 2012 when he was kidnapped by the infamous terror group, reports the New York Daily News.
The militants in the video, titled "A Message to #America (from the #IslamicState)," said the beheading was retribution for recent U.S. airstrikes in Iraq. They also threatened to kill another American journalist who is currently trapped in captivity.
