A 5-year-old girl is lucky to be alive after officials say she was trapped in an operating washing machine at a Laundromat in Pasadena, Texas on Tuesday.

Police say the little girl, who has not been identified, spun around at high speeds inside of the washing machine for several minutes at the Le's Washateria before someone noticed and freed her.

The girl was then airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital following the accident, which occurred around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Although she suffered from extensive injuries, first aid respondents told police that the girl is expected to survive the freak accident, reports Houston TV station KHOU.

"She was tumbling pretty fast in there," Pasadena police spokesman Vance Mitchell told KHOU. "One person walked by and said they saw something flopping around in there. They thought it was just a dress or something because it was moving pretty fast," he added.

Just moments before the girl was locked in the clothes washer, police said a woman had tried to use that same machine, but instead she told a manager that it wasn't working properly. She was then given a refund and she chose another washer.

Authorities have yet to determine how the girl ended up in the laundry washer. Detectives are also working to figure out when it began working, reports USA Today. However, police say that foul play does not appear to be involved.

Police have not disclosed where the girl's parents were or who was supervising her at the Laundromat located on the 2400 block of Southmore Avenue, about 10 miles from Houston.

However, Mitchell let out a stern warning to all parents about paying attention to their children.

"You've got to watch your kids. That's the bottom line. If that was my son or granddaughter, I'd be really upset that I let it happen," he said.
