The Georgia man accused of leaving his infant son in a hot car for hours has been indicted for murder.

Justin Ross Harris was indicted by a Cobb County grand jury Thursday on eight charges related to his 22-month-old son's death. Some of the charges include felony murder, malice murder and cruelty to children.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that Harris could face the death penalty if convicted. He was arrested back on June 18, the day on which his son, Cooper, died, and has remained in jail since that time.

According to Harris, he took his little boy to breakfast at a nearby Chick-fil-A and then told police he planned to drop Cooper off at his day care. However, at some point after breakfast, Harris forgot his son was still in the backseat.

Harris then drove to his job in Home Depot, leaving his baby boy in his SUV while he went in to work. When he discovered Cooper seven hours later, police said he had been dead for over four hours when Harris found him.

Prosecutors argue, however, that leaving Cooper in the hot car was no accident. According to them, Harris left his son in the car after researching children who had died in hot vehicles online. He wanted a "child-free life" and was having problems in his marriage, even sexting with other women.

Harris pleaded not guilty and remains in jail. His wife, Leanna, released a statement in August saying that people shouldn't jump to conclusions about her husband.

"The rush to judgment by the public and mainstream media has left me with little confidence in our legal system and our society," Leanna Harris said in the statement from August. She also mentioned that she is still heartbroken over the loss of her son.
