Jennifer Love Hewitt will mark her debut on "Criminal Minds" once the long-running series kicks off its 10th season on CBS this fall.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Hewitt has been cast as a series regular and will play Kate Callahan, a "seasoned undercover agent whose stellar work at the FBI has landed her a coveted position with the Behavioral Analysis Unit."

In an interview with TV Guide, executive producer Erica Messer described Hewitt's character as an eight-year FBI agent who is "smart, charming, and wise for her years."

"Her background is criminal psychology, and her passion comes from wanting to make the world a safe place. She's had a lot of personal loss that makes her a patriot and a nurturing figure to those in her personal and work families," the EP said.

Messer also dropped a hint about Kate who will be forced to work undercover and schmooze with the bad guys.

"You see her doing something you don't see our team ever doing," Messer said, reports TVLine. "[She has to] sit there and pretend to like a criminal."

She went on to tease that early episodes in the new season will address Season 9's "traumatic" finale, where Spencer Reid suffered from a life-threatening shootout. According to Messer, both Garcia and Reid were affected by the tragic sequence of events "more than we know."

In addition, Messer promised that Episode 3 will be "big" and the team will be called to the site of "one of the largest disasters with mass causalities they've seen in their 10-year history."

TV fans will also be delighted to know that Season 10 will give closure to the sudden departure of Alex Blake.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Messer revealed that Season 10 will address what Blake chose to do with her life.

"You'll learn in the teaser that she's actually moved to Boston and she's teaching full time. ... She's not an FBI agent anymore, but she's taking all of her skills and teaching them to others, which is a pretty honorable thing to do," the showrunner said.

The season premiere of "Criminal Minds" airs on Wednesday, Oct. 1, on CBS.
