Fans of Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise will have to wait a little longer for the next installment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" will be delayed past its summer 2015 release date.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer told THR that the decision was made because of problems with the script, and that he hopes the fifth installment will be ready for summer 2016.

Bruckheimer, who is responsible for producing TV shows and movies such as "CSI," "The Amazing Race," "Top Gun" and "National Treasure," said the outline of the film was well received but the script isn't finished.

According to THR, Disney has stated that the $250 million production from the "Pirates" franchise team could lead to a $190 million write down. Disney wants to keep production under $200 million for the fifth movie, which seems unlikely.

Is the cost of production another reason for the delay?

"It's all a factor," Bruckheimer told THR. "We want a script that everyone's signed off on and a budget that everyone's signed off on. Everybody's more cautious."

Bruckheimer also mentioned that screenwriter Jeff Nathanson's original "Pirates 5" script wasn't well received, while another source said it was "too expensive but it was also really complicated and hard to follow."

Johnny Depp is set to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the upcoming fifth installment. The last movie, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," premiered in 2011, grossing $1.04 billion, THR reports.

Depp was last seen on the big screen this summer in Bruckheimer and Disney's "The Lone Ranger," which was considered a box office flop and was panned by critics.
