It's almost guaranteed that a new iPhone will be revealed this week. Each iPhone introduction brings new features and improvements from the last. So, what does the next iPhone need to have to please iPhone lovers and even new-to-iPhone customers?

From the iPhone 4 to the 5 we saw a slightly bigger screen, the headphone jack moving to the bottom of the phone, a better camera and many more small additions. So what about the leap from the iPhone 5s to the iPhone 6; what do consumers need and want?

Make the Screen Bigger and Make It more Durable: The studies are out there. Customers want big screens. They like to watch videos on them, they like to type on them and they just prefer them. These phones are often referred to as phablets (phone/tablet hybrids). The LG Flex comes in at a whopping six inches, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is 5.1 inches and the HTC One Max is 5.9 inches in size. Those phones are all selling and customers are appreciating the increase in size.

What about the durability of the screen? Surely you've seen someone with a cracked iPhone and you cringe at the sight of it. If Apple finds a way to utilize the ultra-durable Sapphire glass for the iPhone's screen, there sure could be fewer cracked screens and far fewer upset customers.

Battery Life: Apple has to find a way to improve the battery life of the iPhone. Yes, it runs tons of processes at once, it's a super-smart smarphone and it has a vivid display. But there's got to be a way to get it to last as long as its competitors. Android and Windows phones last much longer and they have similar features.

One suggestion that many Apple fans have is wireless charging. Instead of needing a power outlet and a USB cable, you would simply be able to place your phone on a small round circle atop a table and your phone would charge wirelessly. These could be offered at coffee shops and restaurants and would be a great way to encourage customer loyalty. Starbucks is trying to slowly unveil a wireless charging program, but it could take a while for a full nationwide release of the program.

Make Siri Smarter: Too many times Siri replies to your questions with "here's what I found on the web for..." Why ask Siri a question if she is just going to make you Google the answer? Personal assistants from Android and Windows are far smarter and Apple has to send Siri back to school to match up to her competitors. Now, as we previously reported, Apple has been doing just that -- working on a new "True AI" personal assistant called "Viv," but whether Viv is ready for this year's iPhone 6 is still yet to be seen.

Improve the Camera: It's 2014 and Apple is still only using only an 8 megapixel (MP) camera. Apple's competitors are using much more advanced cameras that take much better pictures and have many more features than the iPhone. Take the Nokia Lumia, for example. It has a 41 MP camera; that gets over five times more detail than the iPhone's best camera. Last year's introduction of "True Tone" dual flash mode is a start, but Apple needs to find a way to utilize image stablization and pack in more picture-enhancing features.
