Select users on Twitter will begin seeing a buy button next to certain tweets in their timeline. This will be Twitter's first real dive into the online shopping world.

Twitter announced Monday that it will be testing a "Buy" button that will start popping up on selected users' timelines. It will allow a full purchase to be completed through the Twitter app on Android and iOS devices.

Twitter is following Facebook's test program of allowing users to buy things without leaving the app or heading to external websites.

With the program, users don't have to open up a new webpage or leave the Twitter app; it will all be done within the app.

It's a convenient way for users who are interested in items to go ahead and purchase them and it's a great way for Twitter to make some money.

If Twitter's plan is successful, more companies will offer the "Buy" button. and the relationship between Twitter and the company will become stronger.

Twitter wants to make sure that the in-app purchasing is safe and secure so it will require a shipping and billing address before allowing for one-click buying of products.

Currently, Twitter only has a few companies and music artists signed on to the "Buy" button, but the social media giant hopes to add more in the near future.

Notable artists that are using the "Buy" button to sell their wares are:

  • Keith Urban
  • Pharrell
  • Soundgarden
  • Eminem
  • Wiz Khalifa
  • Demi Lovato

Twitter will start with physical products like clothes and accessories for now, but it could add virtual goods like music and downloads in the future, according to CNBC.

If Twitter can find a way to target users based on their past purchases in the past, this "Buy" button could become even more valuable.

What do you think of the Twitter "Buy" feature? Will you buy anything on Twitter?
