Fans of "The Big Bang Theory" are just weeks away from the hour-long premiere of Season 8, which will feature an update on Sheldon's spontaneous trip across the country and Penny's new sophisticated look.

In the Season 7 finale, Penny and Leonard found Sheldon at a train station, right before he tried to escape Pasadena. According to the International Business Times, Sheldon "was overwhelmed with all the changes that were taking place around him, including the newly engaged Penny and Leonard's talk about moving-in together, without him, and the burning down of Stuart's comic-store."

Newly released photos from the upcoming season reveal that Sheldon really enjoyed his cross-country excursion, and even snapped selfies along the way, notes Entertainment Weekly. However, his trip makes a sharp turnout when he gets to Arizona.

According to executive producer Steve Molaro, Season 8 picks up 45 days into Sheldon's trip, when he finds himself in big trouble.

"His belongings have been stolen and he needs Leonard to come pick him up in Arizona," said the showrunner to TVLine.

Although Leonard comes to his rescue, his situation gets worse once he returns home to his girlfriend. "Amy's not pissed at him for leaving, but she's certainly not thrilled that when he ran into trouble he called Leonard instead of her," said Molaro.

In the meantime, Leonard's relationship with his fiancée Penny will trek new ground when she gets a new job and starts making more money working as a pharmaceutical sales rep at Bernadette's company.

"It alters their dynamic because now she's actually doing well financially," says Molaro. "It's a new chapter for her."

To top things off, Penny will debut a new short haircut.

When it comes to relationships, the Executive Producer teased that viewers can expect to see much more of Raj's new girlfriend Emily, played by Laura Spencer. "We're going to explore more of her personality," he previewed, adding, "and what she's really like."

Fans, however, should not hold their breath for Howard and to Bernadette have a baby, said Molaro, who warned that "we're not in any rush to have a baby on the show.

In addition, Sheldon and Amy won't get too physical in the new season in spite of the fact that they shared their first kiss last season.

"We're always moving them forward in baby steps," Molaro told TVLine. "They're on the same trajectory that they've been on since they met, and that is she is continuing to drag him along into this relationship, whether he wants to admit that he likes it or or not. He's come a long way. She's got him to a place where they hold hands and they kiss and they go on regular dates. While it may not seem like a lot, it's a colossal amount for him."

The Big Bang Theory season 8, episodes 1 and 2, will premiere on Monday, Sept. 22 at 8:00 p.m. ET on CBS.
