Recently, actor Charlie Hunnam opened up about the upcoming sequel to Mexican director Guillermo del Toro's science-fiction flick, "Pacific Rim."

In an interview with Nuke The Fridge, Hunnam said that although del Toro has confirmed that "Pacific Rim 2" is a go, he himself is not positive about the movie's details.

"Yeah, I just did another film with Guillermo so we had some conversations about it," he said. "I don't know if it's definitely going ahead. ... We got a release date, got a script ordered, but it's Hollywood. You never know until you're on set ... "

Still, the "Sons of Anarchy" actor, who played Raleigh Becket in the first movie, said that he is excited about what del Toro has in store for the next chapter in the "Pacific Rim" tale.

"... they seem very, very enthusiastic and excited about it," Hunnam continued. "I've talked a little bit with Guillermo about the story he wants to tell and it's pretty badass."

In addition to the 2013 movie, Hunnam has also worked with del Toro on "Crimson Peak."

"... there wasn't anything between 'Pacific Rim' and 'Crimson Peak' because I took the hiatus off with work because I needed a break," Hunnam said of working with del Toro. "So yeah, it's pretty nice."

"Pacific Rim 2" hits theaters on April 7, 2017, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"I'm doing a little more location-oriented stuff, there are night battles, but there are also daylight battles," del Toro teased at Comic-Con. "We are expanding the mythology of the Anteverse. We are taking the characters into a completely different journey this time because Raleigh for me solved his problem the minute he was able to go full circle and save Mako [Mori] by sacrificing himself, which is what he couldn't do with his brother. He's not on that journey anymore. He's on a new journey."
