At the MTV Video Music Awards, Nicki Minaj held her dress together as she performed without skipping a beat.

While on The Ellen Show, Minaj explained she went from "Anaconda" to "Bang Bang" and didn't have enough time to make the change.

"I had I don't know about 40-50 seconds to change from the 'Anaconda' outfit into the 'Bang Bang' outfit," she said.

At first, she was just going to add a skirt to her first outfit to make it look fresh for her second performance, but when she saw what Jessie J and Ariana Grande were wearing black and white, she didn't want to stick out in a green number.

"I was like I have to put on a black dress really quickly and sure enough we didn't have a real quick-change right there," she said. "So it was literally my whole team just standing there holding curtains around me and it was pitch black. I couldn't see anything and right before it was time for me to walk out they went to zip it up... And right there I thought I died."

It wasn't just a non-functional zipper that made her feel embarrassed. Minaj just wasn't as covered up as she wanted to be.

"I didn't have any underwear on," she said. "No underwear. No bra, because I had just taken off the 'Anaconda' outfit. So I was butt ass naked... I don't know."

Ellen DeGeneres said that Minaj handled it very well, and then walked away to get something for the rapper so that the wardrobe malfunction never happens again.

Minaj first looked bewildered when seeing the object, but DeGeneres explained that it was a giant safety pin. Minaj then laughed at the sparkly pin and asked the talk show host why she would give it to her. DeGeneres just happened to have it lying around.
