Hot on the heels of Apple's iPhone 6 release, Google is rumored to be launching its new smartphone, the Nexus 6. The latest speculation is that the Nexus 6 will be released before the end of 2014.

This projected unveiling is keeping in line with other Nexus rollouts, which have all been released late in the year, save for the first phone in the series, which was announced in January. Nexus in the third and fourth installments were released in November; the latest Nexus 5 came out in October 2013. Most rumors suggest that this new version will follow suit and be shared in October.

Also known as the Nexus X, the sixth-generation phone is being made by Motorola, referred to as the Motorola Shamu.

Prices of the new Nexus product are also expected to be in line for relatively low cost. The estimates place the Nexus 6 at a $550 value.

The potential push-back of its launch might be to avoid directly pitting the iPhone against Nexus.

"An early release would mean that Nexus 6 have to take on iPhone 6 though they belong to different leagues considering their price difference," IBTimes reporter Raymond Romanai said.

Google is planning a variety of size options by creating a 5.5-inch and 5.2-inch models, and in response to the LG G3's QHD display quality, the new specifics on the smartphone include an improved QHD display with a 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution.

There are some conflicting reports on the hardware of the phone, like the megapixels of its camera. While the highest-guessing information lists 20 MP, many others estimate a 15 MP or 16 MP recorder.

As for the software, Google's next mobile operating system, Android 5.0 or Android L, will likely be the OS powering the Nexus 6. Android L also is yet to be released, but with its announcement planned for this fall, rumor has it that the Nexus 6 will be unveiled shortly after in Q4 2014.
