After "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" was delayed from 2015, there has not been a lot of news regarding the film.

However, Orlando Bloom announced that he was considering joining the next film in the storied franchise.

The actor recently told Yahoo UK that he was open to the possibility of returning to the franchise. He said, "There have certainly been some discussions about it and I'm open to it. That whole experience working with Johnny [Depp] and [director] Gore [Verbinski] was really amazing for me. I had a great time working with Johnny, one of the reasons I jumped at the opportunity was because Johnny was involved."

He added, "I was such a massive fan of Johnny Depp growing up so to get up close and personal to Johnny and see how he worked as an actor was just a massive gift."

The addition of Bloom would be no surprise as he was one of the most beloved characters in the franchise. The actor did not return for the fourth Installment, "On Stranger Tides," because Bloom's character's storyline was supposedly finished.

However, there was a lot of speculation that the reason that "On Stranger Tides" did not perform as well as the first three installments domestically was because Bloom and Keira Knightley's characters were missing.

The fourth installment only made $241 million domestically and became the only film in the series to not hit the $300 million mark in the U.S. While it performed extremely well internationally, the domestic gross was somewhat of a disappointment.

Bloom and Knightley's characters were essential to the first three films and they were beloved by fans of the franchise. However, even if Bloom was to return, it is unlikely that Knightley reprises her character of Elizabeth Swan.

Knightley is currently promoting two new films at the Toronto Film Festival and is on track to get her second Oscar nomination. During an interview for her film "The Imitation Game," the actress was asked about the possibility of doing the fifth film. However, she quickly said that her character's story was tied up in the third film "At World's End" and stated, "I think that ship has sailed."

Knightley has yet to select her next project but she stated back in January while at Sundance that she did not want to be in any more period films at the moment. She stated that she didn't like spending two hours in makeup and would prefer to sleep.

At the moment, Johnny Depp is the only one confirmed to reprise his role, Captain Jack Sparrow, and Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg will direct the film written by Jeff Nathanson.

There are a number of actors rumored to be in the film including Geoffrey Rush, Keith Richards, Martin Klebba, Lee Arenberg and Jack Davenport. Christoph Waltz is also rumored to play Captain Brand. However, no one has signed or confirmed anything.

There are three years left until the release of the film and production has yet to begin. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing it and he recently stated that there would be no Kraken in the movie.

Disney is planning on releasing the feature on July 7, 2017.
