Charlize Theron Adoption Case: Arkansas Judge Dismissed for Revealing Details of Actress' Son
A County Circuit judge in Arkansas was ordered for dismissal after he spilled confidential information about an adoption case involving actress Charlize Theron and posted comments in an online forum. Faulkner County Circuit Judge Michael Maggio was ordered by an Arkansas Supreme Court disciplinary panel to be immediately dismissed for his behavior and revoked his judicial power, according to CNN.
Maggio posted in an online Louisiana State sports fans forum in January 2012 under the pseudonym "geauxjudge" details of Theron's adoption of a baby in 2012 that took place in the jurisdiction where he served.
Online he wrote that another judge who was his friend was overseeing the case and said that Theron had appeared in court in a disguise and she had come to court with an entourage of people.
"I offered to be the baby daddy," Maggio wrote as reported by New York Daily News.
Another comment he posted said, "Did she get herself a black baby? Yep."
The details of the case that Maggio shared violated courtroom confidentiality standards, especially when the Oscar-winning actress did not confirm that she adopted a child, her son Jackson, until March 2012.
The state court said Maggio admitted to writing the posts under "geauxjudge" and later apologized for the ethical violation.
"I apologize deeply for my lapse in personal judgment and I have no excuse," he said. "The comments posted were not acceptable. These comments are not a reflection of who I am."
The actress, who won an Academy Award for the 2003 film "Monster," has not commented on the judge's dismissal.
She is also known for her roles in "The Italian Job" and "Snow White and the Huntsman."
Theron recently made headlines when she received backlash from comparing life in the celebrity spotlight and its invasive attention to rape.
