Beyoncé and Jay Z released the first part of a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired short film trilogy "Bang Bang," which appeared throughout their recent "On the Run" tour.

Directed by New York-based filmmaker and photographer Dikayl Rimmasch, the black-and-white clip premiered on Nowness shows the hip-hop power couple meeting each other for the first time at Bey's cabaret show.

The "Drunk in Love" duo then drives through the Californian desert in a 1960s Pontiac GTO until they make a pit stop at Easy Rest-Inn's diner, where a man at another table is reading a newspaper that has both of their faces on it with the headline, "On the Run."

The artistic visual ends as Hov walks up to the next table and extinguishes his cigar on the man's hamburger, and the couple continues their run.

Rimmasch, who met the R&B diva and the "Magna Carta Holy Grail" rapper through fellow music video director Mark Romaneck ("99 Problems" and Michael Jackson's "Scream), explained the origin of the "On the Run" concept.

"In my first conversation on the telephone with Jay Z, he explained his concept of 'On the Run.' He said, 'We're not trying to do this literally, it's not that we're Bonnie and Clyde. We're on the run from everything - on the run from becoming a cliché, on the run from doing the same thing again,'" he said.

"Everything he mentioned was a level of consciousness he has for staying alive as an entertainer and as a human being," he continued. "He wanted to keep it more abstract because for him it was very abstract. How do you stay new, not just to your audience but also yourself?"

The short featured an Ennio Morricone classic "Il Vizio di Uccidere," and the director used vintage gear, such as old Russian lenses.

"Beyoncé and Jay Z are two very intelligent, insightful and thoughtful people in an almost low-key way, which is how they got to where they are," Dikayl Rimmasch added. "They are very aware of people's attitudes and what energy they are bringing. Once you fully realize that, then the pressure comes off and you just have to do what you're good at."

The "Crazy in Love" couple's "On the Run" tour concert film, which they filmed in Paris, is set to air on HBO Sept. 20 at 9 p.m. EST.
