CBS Thursday Night Football 2014: Rihanna Blasts Network for Canceling Performance
To air or not to air. That was the problem between CBS and singer Rihanna during last Thursday night's Football game. The network decided that it wasn't the right time to feature Riri's performance while the Ray Rice domestic case was circulating the media. Rihanna's response? "The audacity..."
Although Rihanna has had one of the most successful singing careers of all time, she just can't seem to erase that violent night back in 2009 with then-boyfriend Chris Brown. CBS figured that the combination of a domestic violence victim performing during the Ravens against the Steelers with Rice's fresh attack scandal just wasn't the correct match. However, pulling the plug to then making an attempt to air the performance this week just didn't work for Rihanna.
The "Diamonds" singer took to Twitter to blast CBS, tweeting, "CBS you pulled my song last week, now you wanna slide it back in this Thursday? NO, F**K you! Y'all are sad for penalizing me for this."
The "Unapologetic" starlet, who was home in Barbados Monday, wasn't going to let this one slip through the cracks. In fact, it was a surprise that it took Rihanna this long to speak up about the situation judging from her outspoken track record. The singer also followed up the tweet with a simple, "The audacity..." demanding CBS and the media to move on from the Chris Brown beating five years ago.
CBS had recently had a similar issue with rapper Nicki Minaj during their Fashion Rocks show when they cut her performance short because of explicit dance moves and lyrics.
Do you think CBS is making enemies in the wrong places? Is the network too conservative or just protective over scandals surrounding their channel? Was CBS in the "right" for assuming that audiences would make a connection between Ray Rice's domestic case and Rihanna? Would you have made the connection as the viewer?
