'Criminal Minds' Season 10 Spoilers: Jennifer Love Hewitt Featured in 'Criminal Minds' Art
In wake of the premiere of Season 10 of "Criminal Minds," which will kick off on Oct. 1, CBS released new art for the upcoming season featuring Jennifer Love Hewitt in character as FBI agent Kate Callahan, reports Entertainment Weekly.
Hewitt was cast in a reoccurring role on the show in lieu of actress Jeanne Tripplehorn who left the show in last season's shocking finale.
Tripplehorn's character Alex Blake was one of the main characters on the show. However, Blake made a sudden exit after she was traumatized over Spencer Reid's gunshot injuries. As a result, she decided to quit her job on the FBI's elite Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU).
Although Kate Callahan will be introduced in the debut of the new season, viewers won't learn much about her. According to TV Guide, Hewitt's character will come full circle after she becomes involved in a case with a plane crash that hits close to home.
"Although she'll fill in the blanks to at least one member of the BAU, he or she may not be the first person to find out," TV Guide reported.
Callahan has been described as a "seasoned undercover agent whose stellar work at the FBI has landed her a coveted position with the Behavioral Analysis Unit," reports Entertainment Weekly.
In an interview with TV Guide, executive producer Erica Messer described Hewitt's character as an eight-year FBI agent who is "smart, charming, and wise for her years."
"Her background is criminal psychology, and her passion comes from wanting to make the world a safe place. She's had a lot of personal loss that makes her a patriot and a nurturing figure to those in her personal and work families," the EP said.
In addition, former "Jericho" actress Alicia Coppola will guest star in the fourth episode of the next season as Lisa Randall, the head of a Morgellons syndrome support group who's "willing to go as far as she can to protect group members privacy," reports TVLine.
The season premiere of "Criminal Minds" airs on Wednesday, Oct. 1, on CBS.
