Just one weekend down for the iPhone 6 and already 10 million excited customers have the latest device, according to Apple.

Apple said that it sold over 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models during the introduction Friday through Sunday. The phone first began selling on Friday morning, but many customers chose to pre-order their phone Sept. 12 to avoid lines.

"Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend, and we couldn't be happier," Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook said in a news release.

Cook did add that he was happy with the amount of phones sold but thought that even more phones could have been sold if there was more supply of them. Cook said that customers who had to order their phones by mail will get them as quickly as possible.

The last two iPhones that debuted before the iPhone 6 were the iPhone 5s/5c and the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5s/5c sold nine million units in its first weekend while the iPhone 5 only sold five million units in its first weekend.

Chinese buyers are so eager to buy the new iPhone that they are looking to the secondary market and buying the phones for over $1,000 (sometimes up to $3,250) for the entry-level phone. The phone will not go on sale in China until an agreement with China and Apple is made in regards to network licenses.

The excitement over the iPhone is mostly due to the bigger screen and new features like the Health app and Apple Pay (a mobile-payment solutions app).
