Back when the Samsung Galaxy S4 came out, buyers complained that it was far too similar to the S3. Fast-forward to early 2014, the S5 sure looks very similar to the S4.

Is Samsung just trying to stay competitive with Apple by updating their phones every year? It may be, but the S5 does offer some advantages over the S4.

The screen only got 0.1 inches bigger from the S4 to the S5, but the resolution improved ever so slightly. Since the 0.1 inches is such a small difference the S5's advantages will not be noticeable.

The processor was bound to get better between the S4 and the S5. From a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 running at 1.9 GHz on the S4 to a Snapdragon 801 running at 2.5 GHz, the S5 certainly was able to get a fast processor inside of it. It is 1.29 times faster than the S4.

Storage is a little strange between the two devices. You can choose a 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB Galaxy S4, but only the 16 GB and 32 GB storage options are available for the S5. The S4 supports external memory cards up to 64 GB, and the S5 is able to support a 128 GB memory card.

Battery life is always difficult in these smartphones. So many processes are running, and it is extremely hard to keep these devices charged. The S4 offered a 2,600 mAh battery that was supposed to deliver 17 hours of talk time. The S5 offers a 2,800 mAh battery that says it will last 21 hours of talk time. Those extra 200 mAh must have helped a little bit.

A better camera is afforded in the S5 thanks to a technology called the ISOCELL sensor. This is a superior camera to the 13 MP offered in the S4 that did not have the ISOCELL sensor technology. Interestingly enough the iPhone 6 is still stuck on a 8 MP camera.

Another change is the dimpled back on the S5. This is supposed to be easier to carry and grip the phone. This is just a small advantage but certainly convenient for many who fear they would drop their phone.

In conclusion, the S5 is a slightly better phone, but is it worth the price? Not yet. Keep waiting until the S5's price comes down before picking this device up.
