ABC 'Once Upon a Time' Season 4 Air Date: Executive Producers Reveal Season 3 Finale Storyline That Never Aired [Spoilers]
Warning: This article contains spoilers from ABC's "Once Upon a Time."
"Once Upon a Time" executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis planned on bringing a Season 1 regular back for Season 3 but couldn't because of the actor's rise to fame. This week, the producers detailed the storyline that viewers never got to see.
During Season 1, Northern Irish actor Jamie Dornan played Sheriff Graham in Storybrooke (the "real" world) and the Huntsman in the Enchanted Forest (Fairy Tale Land). Eventually, the character was killed off, but Dornan did make an appearance in Season 2.
Horowitz and Kitsis hoped that Dornan would reprise his role again for the Season 3 finale.
"We wanted a 'Peggy Sue Got Married' moment," Kitsis said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
In the Season 3 finale, Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Captain Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) travel back in time and into the Enchanted Forest. It was there that the producers planned on having the Huntsman make his appearance while Emma was trapped in The Evil Queen's (Lana Parilla) castle.
"He would've been one of the guards because it would've been during that period," Horowitz explained. "She would've seen him, and it would've been heartbreaking for her because she would've wanted to reach out to him, but knowing that -- because she's on a mission -- she couldn't."
Unfortunately for Horowitz, Kitsis and the Huntsman fans, Dornan could not do the episode because he was busy filming the upcoming "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie.
Still, "Once Upon a Time" lovers shouldn't feel too slighted; the producers never planned on bringing Dornan back full-time.
"It wasn't a big plot thing, but it was an emotional moment that we wanted to do," Horowitz continued.
Therefore, Dornan will not likely return to "Once Upon a Time" unless the show tackles time travel again, according to EW.
Season 4 of "Once Upon a Time" premieres on ABC at 8 p.m. ET on Sept. 28.
