'Scandal' Season 4, Episode 1 Recap: Olivia Returns to D.C., the Gladiators Reunite
In the season four premiere of "Scandal," it seemed like Olivia Pope, or Julia Baker, was ready to say goodbye to Washington, D.C.
She's on the beach and has a copy of "Gone Girl" with her, and though she seems to enjoy her time with Jake Ballard, she receives bad news. Quinn, who has tracked her down through her favorite wine, has sent her a newspaper clipping that said Harrison, who was played by actor Columbus Short, was dead.
Olivia and Jake return to D.C., but she says it will only be for a few days.
Huck has gotten a job at a tech repair spot, and when Olivia visits him, he is not too welcoming. He says he only wants to talk to her if she plans to stay for long term, and Abby is also upset that Olivia left.
Olivia also meets with her father, Rowan. Since he knew she was in town, he kept their weekly restaurant date. Olivia is there to try to find out if he had anything to do with Harrison's death.
Rowan completely denies that he had anything to do with it.
Meanwhile, Mellie and Fitz are still hurting from their son's death when they hear that Olivia is back in town. Mellie no longer looks put together and has a uniform of Uggs and bathrobes.
Slowly, Olivia is roped back into her old world.
She gets a call from Senator Stephanie Vaughn, who says she was defending herself from sexual assault and killed a senator. But, he is still actually alive. Though Olivia doesn't want to take on the case and tries to get someone else to handle it, she can't let go.
Olivia realizes Vaughn is lying, and she ends up taking Vaughn's assistant as a client.
Harrison's funeral is attended by all of the Gladiators.
"He didn't have people," Olivia said. "Just us."
