Sprint the Best Deal for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
In an effort to make itself viable again, Sprint has put out another program that makes it the best deal in the business for those looking for a new iPhone this fall.
Buyers looking to buy a 16GB iPhone 6 (the base model with a price tag of $199 with a two-year contract on most carriers) will find that Sprint's "iPhone for Life" plan is the cheapest option for picking up the device -- by far. According to research analyst Jonathan Atkin from RBC Capital Markets, Sprint's iPhone for Life plan will run around $1,680 over two years including phone payments (the iPhone for Life plan isn't a contract, but a leasing program). This is $1,280 less than a comparable plan from AT&T, $1,130 cheaper than Verizon, and $410 less than T-Mobile.
"Sprint's offer is the most differentiated, at least thus far," Atkin said in a Bloomberg report.
The purchaser has 24 months to pay off the new iPhone with $0 down and after they can even trade in for a new model with no money down once again. All in all, Sprint is the best deal on the market over the long run for a new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. Rates start at $20 a month for the 16GB iPhone 6 or $25 per month for the 16GB iPhone 6 Plus.
And Sprint needs to be the best deal on the market. The nation's third-largest has been struggling recently, falling prey to archaic practices and a network that isn't up to par with AT&T's or Verizon's. Although still ahead of T-Mobile in the market, the No. 4 carrier has been making moves with a youthful and rebellious strategy.
Sprint, however, has retaliated recently. After failing to convince federal regulators that a merger with T-Mobile would be beneficial to the market, Sprint went ahead and tapped Bolivian wonder boy Marcelo Claure for the chief executive position. Since taking his office in August, Claure has come out strong: saying cuts will be necessary, going toe-to-toe with T-Mobile, and expressing optimism at Sprint's future.
"I have been very frank with employees from Day 1," Claure said in an interview with Re/code. "We are looking at everything that we do. ... Businesses we shouldn't be in, we are in the process of eliminating."
"We have to do everything within our power to get back to winning."
