Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have officially become grandparents.

Their only daughter, Chelsea, announced early Saturday morning that she and her husband Marc Mezvinsky have welcomed a baby girl into the world.

"Marc and I are full of love, awe and gratitude as we celebrate the birth of our daughter, Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky," tweeted Chelsea, 34, shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 27.

Both Bill and Hillary Clinton retweeted the good news early Saturday as well.

According to ABC News, a Clinton spokesperson confirmed that the baby was born Friday.

Chelsea first made the announcement about her pregnancy back in April. She also resigned from her role at NBC News on Aug. 29 in wake of her baby, reports USA Today.

During a recent interview with ABC News at the 2014 Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting, President Clinton expressed his anticipation to being a grandfather and raising his grandchild in a loving world.

"I want them to get up every day and look at the world with wonder and reverence. I want them to respect everyone they meet, whatever their background. I want them to be aware of all the people that make their world and not just the people that they are introduced to," Clinton said.

"I want them to really love being alive. It's my first and whatever other grandchildren I have -- that's what I want. And when they grow up, I want them to believe they have certain obligations to people who don't have all the opportunities they'll have and to the larger society."

Chelsea and her husband, an investment banker, dated for five years, starting in 2005, before tying the knot. The couple said "I do" at a traditional and lavish ceremony in New York back in August 2010.
