iOS 8 Download, Release, Features, News & Updates: Apple Redesigns Operating System's Notification Center
Apple has been working to fix the iOS 8 update issue, which left many users with useless iPhones, and the web is again starting to focus on the positives of the new operating system.
One of those positives, according to reports, is a brand new Notification Center. The base of all notifications has been around of Apple devices since iOS 5, but hasn't changed much since then, CBS News reported.
The first things long-time Apple users will notice that the Notification Center has become much more interactive. Users can respond to text messages or mark and delete emails without visiting either inbox.
Another big change to the Notification Center is the extended presence of widgets. Since iOS 5, there have been stocks and weather widgets available in the Notification Center, but now any app that supports the Apple Notification Center can appear in it, allowing users to access important information without unlocking their devices.
To make changes to the widgets that appear, unlock the phone, pull down the Notification Center and swap to the Today tab. On the bottom of the screen, tap the "Edit" button and you can move or delete your widgets.
Some of the apps that are compatible with the new Apple Notification Center are Kindle, DropBox, LinkedIn, OpenTable, Yahoo News Digest, and many others. Developers are expected to continue updating apps so they will be compatible with the Notification Center.
Macworld claims that the new Notification Center is the best upgrade that Apple made in iOS 8, but warns the widgets can become a problem.
"It's really easy to add too many widgets, way too fast, making your lovely clean Notification Center look like a TMI explosion," Macworld reported. "If you choose carefully, you can curate the perfect collection of widgets for your needs."
