Despite Trump's opinion on the show, "Black-ish" star and executive producer Anthony Anderson explained during an interview with Power 105.1 that "Black-ish" has less to do about race and more to do about " first generation success" and "giving your children more than what you had growing up."
Anderson concluded his explanation of the show by adding that "Black-ish" is meant to focus on the idea of "the American dream."
His "Black-ish" co-star, Tracee Ellis Ross also supported Anderson's explanation that "Black-ish" is more about family than it is racial.
"Black-ish a family comedy about about a black family. It's one of the things that I think is interesting about the show, we're not a family that happens to be black, we are a black family," Ross explained during her interview with Power 105.1. "It's about a black family dealing with their 'ish.' So although the show is not about being black-within the 'ish'-a lot of cultural identity, race, and all those kinds of things come up."
Despite Trump's negative review on the show, "Black-ish" is still well received by the majority of viewers so far.
TV by the numbers shows that in its second week on-air, "Black-ish" has garnered over 8 million viewers.
Watch "Black-ish" on Wednesday on ABC at 9:30/8:30c.
