Shia LaBeouf News: On The Ellen Degeneres Show, Star Says He Had to Wear 'Hannibal Mask' in Jail [Watch]
Shia LaBeouf dropped by The Ellen DeGeneres show to talk about his time spent in jail.
In the show, which airs today, he talked about the 24 hours he spent in jail in June after he spit on a cop.
The actor explained that he was going through an "existential crisis" and that he made some bad choices, but his time in jail forced him to shape up.
"I really went all the way with it," he said. "They put a 'Hannibal' mask on me and a lead jacket. It was very scary. I spit on a cop. That's a no, no. I'm sorry if you're watching, dude. I'm sorry. That was scary, man."
It was not the first time he had been to jail, but he said that it was the worst experience he had.
LaBeouf also talked about the time he wore a paper bag on his face that said he was no longer famous. He followed up that incident with a performance piece that allowed people to tell him anything they wanted. He wanted to "invite" the negativity he was receiving online.
People were invited one by one to speak to him. There was even a bowl of "malicious tweets" that people could read from. LaBeouf, who said he felt very apologetic, was expecting the worst, but instead he was surprised how loving attendees were.
LaBeouf has been known for his method acting, and his "Fury" co-star Logan Lerman explained that LaBeouf's cut was not makeup. While Lerman was impressed at how realistic his cuts looked, LaBeouf didn't think it looked real.
"And Shia was like, 'No it doesn't look real,'" Lerman said. "Then he walks out into the hallway and says, 'Hey man, wanna see something fun? Check this out...' and he takes out a knife and cuts his face. And for the whole movie, he kept opening these cuts on his face."
And that's not all he did to portray his character in "Fury." LaBeouf also went to the dentist and asked to have a tooth removed.
