With the 2014-15 NBA preseason tipping off, the regular season is set to begin on Oct. 28 with the San Antonio Spurs hosting the Dallas Mavericks.

There are still a few notable free agents available such as Jermaine O'Neal and Rashard Lewis. By far the biggest free agent name left unsigned is shooting guard Ray Allen.

Statistically, Allen is the greatest perimeter shooter of all time, holding NBA records for most three-point shots made in the regular season and postseason. Allen has won two NBA Championships; one with with the Boston Celtics and the other with the Miami Heat.

Most people believe Allen will choose to play with the Cleveland Cavaliers or the Spurs this upcoming season.

The Spurs would make a perfect fit for a number of reasons. First, the Spurs are the best three-point shooting team in the league. Last season, the Spurs were the most efficient perimeter shooting team making 39.7 percent of their outside shots. Players such as Manu Ginobili, Danny Green, Patrick Mills and Marco Belinelli all made at least 90 three point shots last season.

Another reason the Spurs would be a terrific fit for the Allen is because of experience. Older veteran players such as Tim Duncan, Ginobili and Tony Parker continue to thrive under Gregg Popovich's system. Last season, the Spurs became the only team in NBA history to win an NBA Championship without having a single player average over 30 minutes per game. Allen can get plenty of rest on this star-studded team.

The third and probably most obvious reason is rings. The Spurs are reigning NBA Champions and have won five titles since 1999. This squad has also successfully made it to the last two NBA Finals and would have won if it weren't for Allen making a clutch 3-pointer in Game 6 for the Heat. It would be pretty ironic to see Allen join the team he stopped prevented from winning the 2013 NBA Finals.

On the other hand, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been rumored to be in the mix to land the 39-year-old shooting guard.

The Cavaliers play in a very weak Eastern Conference, and with LeBron James, the Cavaliers are expected to win the East by a large margin. The addition of power forward Kevin Love adds great strength down low in the paint area. James, Love, Allen and Kyrie Irving together on the same team: what's not to love?

Playing with the Cavaliers would mean Allen gets a lot of three-point shots, but it also means he would have to play a lot. Allen has shown he can play with James, having won an NBA Championship together. With James drawing constant double teams, Allen will be open from the outside on a regular basis.

Both the Spurs and Cavaliers offer a lot of great things for Allen, who does plan to play this season and not retire. If Allen wants to win a championship, and get more rest, the Spurs will be the better selection. If Allen wants to play a lot of minutes and get plenty of shots, then the Cavaliers could be his team.
