Carlos Ponce has been busy photoshopping "Cristela" on pictures of prominent celebrities, but now the Puerto Rican actor has taken some time to talk about the new show.

"'Cristela' is a marvelous show that tells the story of an enchanting young woman," he said. "Her family, her anecdotes, her triumphs and failures that have happened and trying to get ahead, succeeding in this land of opportunities."

Writer and star Cristela Alonzo also joined Ponce in the interview.

She explained that she identified with her character, who was 90 percent who she is in real life. She said the main difference is their careers.

Alonzo is and wanted to be a comedian, and her character is an aspiring lawyer, which she chose because of the process that it takes to be a lawyer.

Otherwise, the comedienne says that the things that happen to the show have actually happened to her.

"I wanted to make a show about a woman who is trying to accomplish her dreams because I wanted to inspire other Latinos, Latinas, boys, girls," she said. "They do have dreams, and they too can make them come true."

The actress explained that she is fearless because she grew up poor, so she thinks that regardless of what choice she makes, she won't be worse off than when she was a child.

Ponce's character, Felix, has two children with Cristela's sister.

"Perhaps Felix is a little macho, but I love comedy," he said. "I think it's the most important therapy and medicine that we have in this world, and I think if I had a nanny like [Cristela Alonzo], I think it would be very expensive, but lovely."

In real life, Ponce says he's not a great brother-in-law because of his busy schedule, but he tries to reunite his family when he visits.

"Cristela" is the first prime time show that was written, produced and created by a Latina, notes Jezebel.
