Video footage has surfaced of an Arizona police officer threatening to kill an immigrant. The cause? Being detained during a traffic stop. The video was uploaded to YouTube by an immigrant rights group.

Here's what happened according to Teodulo Sanchez, a Mexican immigrant:

Sanchez, who has been living in the U.S. for 14 years, was returning home to Mesa, Arizona from Yuma where he was doing a plumbing job. He felt like he was being followed by an unmarked car for quite some time.

Once Sanchez was finally pulled over near the town of Buckeye, he flipped on his recorder because he did not feel comfortable with the situation.

In the video, you can see what seems to be a normal traffic stop. The entire video is in all Spanish. The officer asks Sanchez several questions and asks him if he has any weapons. Sanchez said that he only has his work tools in his car.

The officer asks Sanchez to keep his hands on the steering wheel and Sanchez complies.

Then the officer says:

"If you do anything, I'll kill you right here"

Sanchez then tells the police officer that he is recording this traffic stop.

The officer replies:

If you move, I'll shoot you. You understand?"

The video is only a little over a minute long but Sanchez said the entire stop took about 20 minutes. Sanchez was released without charges. He plans to file a complaint with the police department.

The Buckeye Police Department responded to these allegations on Monday with a press release saying that a similar car was spotted in the area carrying a large ammount of drugs and possibly weapons. They added that Sanchez was pulled over for a traffic violation and that he did not comply with the officer's request for him to shut the car off and keep his hands on the wheel.

"With the information that the driver may be armed, and the fact that he was not obeying the officer's commands, this heightened the officer's concern for safety," the release says.
