Actor Neil Patrick Harris, known for his role in “How I Met Your Mother” and his recent appearance in the film “Gone Girl,” will host next year’s Academy Awards ceremony.

Harris, 41, will host the Oscars, according to the Hollywood Reporter, after Ellen DeGeneres, who hosted the last Oscars, declined to host next year’s ceremony. Although the actor has not hosted the Oscars before, he does have hosting experience, having hosted the Emmys and Tony shows.

"We are thrilled to have Neil host the Oscars. We have known him his entire adult life, and we have watched him explode as a great performer in feature films, television and stage. To work with him on the Oscars is the perfect storm, all of his resources and talent coming together on a global stage,” said the Academy Awards’ producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.

"It is truly an honor and a thrill to be asked to host this year's Academy Awards," Harris said. "I grew up watching the Oscars and was always in such awe of some of the greats who hosted the show. To be asked to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, and everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting is a bucket list dream come true."

In a video posted on Twitter, Harris crosses out hosting the Oscars from his bucket list.

According to CNN, Harris’ bucket list includes: jump out of a plane; move to NYC; saw a lady in half; win a Tony Award; perform with the Muppets; star in a TV show; bungee jump; rap with Snoop Dog(g); juggle flaming torches; star in Broadway show; white water rafting; become an imagineer; fly in hot-air balloon; birthday treasure hunt; meet the President; have children; sleep in Cinderella's Castle; get married; write a book; and host the Oscars.

The 87th Academy Awards will air on Feb. 22.
