Jenni Rivera Death Update 2014: Widower Esteban Loaiza Seeks $35M
Jenni Rivera's tragic death in December 2012 has brought plenty of legal issues.
From people fighting about the material used in her book to the families of the other victims filing lawsuits, there has been plenty of drama. Now her widower, Esteban Loaiza, is suing Starwood Management and Rodatz Financial Group for $35 million, notes La Opinion.
The money is broken down in three ways. It would be $25 million for the loss of future income, $5 million for past earrings and $5 million for the loss of the company of his wife.
The former Los Angeles Dodger and Rivera were separated, and she had asked for a divorce two months before her death. Monica R. Kelly, Loaiza's lawyer, said that if Rivera's widower wins the money, he will give it to Rivera's children.
The late singer is going to get a park dedicated to her in Long Beach.
Councilman Dee Andrews said that Rivera was a model citizen and that she had done a lot for the community. One of the things that she did was send clothes and other items to women and children who were victims of domestic violence.
"I don't think people really knew how much she gave back to the community," Andrews said.
Her children are constantly writing sweet messages to remember her.
For example, her son, Johnny Lopez, made a music video to his favorite song by his mother, "Basta Ya." He said he mixed a few of Rivera's performances to make the video.
"I plan to make much more things in the future involving my mother," he said. "Perhaps maybe even directing her movie."
Chiquis Rivera's name has been thrown around as someone who may play Rivera in the movie, but the young singer has explained that she wants to be her own person. She's proud to be Rivera's daughter, but she hopes people will allow for her to show who she is.
